SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Softball got a home win against future Pac-12 opponent Colorado State in Day 2 of the River State Classic.
It was a home run for
Aiyana Coleman, an RBI single from
Sami Hood and an RBI groundout from Bass that scored the runs for the Bobcats. Maddy Azua tossed the complete game in the circle for Texas State, striking out 10 batters in the process.
How it Happened: .
Azua started the game with two strikeouts on the first three batters she faced. She added another in the bottom of the 2
nd, despite letting three runners on they were all stranded with a fly out to end the inning.
Texas State got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run, her fourth of the season, to lead off the 2
nd inning. Hood's RBI single would score Zarate who reached on a single to right after the home run.
Colorado State got on the board from an RBI fielder's choice in the third. Azua added two more strikeouts to her tally in that inning as well.
Azua struck out three batters between the 4
th and 5
th.
Texas State scored its third run after a leadoff double from
Keely Williams. From there, she scored on
Karmyn Bass' ground out. The Bobcats would strand three runners after a
Megan Kelnar groundout.
The Bobcats were looking to close out the game, but on two outs a ball got by Kelnar with a runner on third for Colorado State to make it a one-run game. Azua called the game, though, with her 10
th strikeout of the game.
After today's game, Texas State is now 7-5 on the season.
