SAN MARCOS, Texas – Kyra Anderson recorded her eighth double-double of the season with a 14 point and 10 rebound night in the Bobcats loss to Arkansas State. Additionally,
Saniya Burks recorded her seventh-consecutive double-digit night with 17 to lead the Bobcats.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Red Wolves got off to a hot start, going up 11-4 on some early three-point attempts made. The Bobcats did their best to keep the score close in the first quarter, but turnovers and the Red Wolves knocking down five three's in the first quarter saw the Bobcats trailing by 13 after the first quarter. Anderson recorded five points in the first quarter to lead the Bobcats.
Â
The Bobcats shot efficiently in the second quarter, going 7-14 from the field and 5-6 from the line, but it couldn't match the Red Wolves 6-10 three-point shooting. That was the difference in the score, was five more three-point attempts. The Bobcats outrebounded the visitors 11-6, but 8-4 on turnovers allowed the visitors to extend their lead. At the half, Arkansas State led 54-33.
Â
Texas State outscored Arkansas State in the second half. It started in the third quarter with the Bobcats going 4-9 from the field to score 12 points. The Bobcats did that while holding Arkansas State to just 10 points on 4-15 shooting. The Red Wolves were able to get more shot attempts because of the Bobcats 13 turnovers, but the team's defense helped keep the Red Wolves off the scoresheet. Â
Â
The Bobcats again outscored Arkansas State in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 to their 11. Both sides turned the ball over many times, but the Bobcats outshot the Red Wolves 46% to 26% to outscore them. That, alongside outrebounding the visitors helped the Bobcats make a dent in the deficit. Despite that, though, the first half spread was too much for the Bobcats to overcome and Texas State fell 75-61 despite winning the second half.
Â
After today's loss to Arkansas State, Texas State is now 11-15 on the season and 7-8 in Sun Belt.
