Women’s Tennis Secures Fifth Straight Win With 4-3 Victory at Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas— Texas State women's tennis earned its fifth consecutive victory Sunday afternoon, defeating Abilene Christian 4-3 on the road at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavilion.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 5-2 overall this season, including a perfect 2-0 mark at home, a 3-1 record on the road and one neutral-site loss.


Texas State secured the doubles point for the fifth straight match before clinching the team victory with three consecutive singles wins. Two remaining singles matches finished after the Bobcats had already secured the win, resulting in the final 4-3 score.

Texas State's Saturday match against Tarleton State was declared a no contest due to inclement weather. Tarleton State led 2-1 at the time play was suspended.

Doubles
Senior Ireland Simme and freshman Olivia Collins gave Texas State an early advantage on court one, defeating Abilene Christian's Alice Klinteby and Masha Vrsalovic 6-3. The duo improved to 5-1 on court one this season and extended their winning streak to five matches.

The sophomore tandem of Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Jess Board and Elsa Luthar on court three. The pair improved to 4-1 overall this season and remains undefeated (4-0) on court three.
 
Singles
The first completed singles match came on court four, where Abilene Christian's Victoria Correa defeated Olivia Collins 6-0, 6-0 to even the match at 1-1.

Chantajah Mills responded with a straight-set victory on court six, defeating Jess Board 6-2, 6-2 to restore Texas State's lead.

Ireland Simme extended the Bobcats' advantage to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Alice Klinteby on court three.

Freshman Anastasia Radovanovic clinched the match on court five in her first singles appearance of the season. Facing Elsa Luthar, Radovanovic claimed a tightly contested first set in a 7-6 (7-0) tiebreak before securing the match with a 6-3 second-set victory.

Following the clinch, play continued on the remaining courts. Tadiwa Mauchi fell to Angela Del Campo 6-3, 6-2 on court two, while Emily Niers dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Masha Vrsalovic on court one.

Texas State returns to action Friday at home against UIW at 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
