SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Softball closed out the States Up Invitational with a six-inning loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday afternoon that saw 16 different Bobcats take at-bats and three different pitchers.
Maddy Azua started in the circle and tossed 2.1 innings. She pitched the first inning unscathed, retiring the Razorbacks in order with two ground outs and a fly out. The Bobcats started the game with some momentum, getting two hits in the bottom half of the innings, but were left stranded.
Arkansas led off the top of the 2
nd inning with a solo home run to open the scoring. The Bobcats were unable to answer it in the bottom half of the inning, themselves getting retired in order.
Arkansas went up 4-0 in the 3
rd off a three-run homer after a double and a single got runners on base for Arkansas. Head coach
Ricci Woodard opted to bring in
Abigail Jennings to pitch after that.
Harley Vestal singled to get on base in the bottom half of the inning, but was out at second on a fielder's choice for Bass.
Arkansas added another run on an RBI ground out in the fifth, then two more off a home run and a RBI double in the 6
th to end the game.
Chesney Davis came in to pitch the final 1.2 innings.
Highlighting the game for the Bobcats was experience throughout, with 16 different Bobcats taking at bats in the game.
After today's loss, Texas State is now 5-4 on the season.

Texas State will close out the States Up Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 15 at 12:15 pm against Wichita State. The team will then stay home for the River State Classic from Feb. 19-22 where the team will host Oklahoma State, Colorado State, Brown and Kansas City.
