SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Softball started off its 24-game homestand with its highest ranked win since 2024 by beating #18 Clemson to open the States Up Invitational.
Maddy Azua tossed a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts to help the team to the win. She worked alongside a 3 RBI night that included a home run from Kat Zarate to push the Bobcats to a 4-0 win.
Aiyana Coleman also recorded her eighth RBI of the year to score the Bobcat's first run.

Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats and tossed the complete game shutout, which she started with a three up, three down inning. From there,
Aiyana Coleman got the scoring started in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single.
Neither side added any runs in the second, but Azua recorded three strikeouts in the third. She sandwiched two hits between them but was able to get out of the inning with runners on with a strikeout to end the inning.Â
Keely Williams led off the third inning with a double down the right field line. From there,
Harley Vestal singled to advance Williams to third. The bases would be loaded on Coleman's walk. Zarate singled to centerfield for 2 RBI to extend the Bobcats lead out to three.Â
Azua struck out another batter in the fourth and two more in the fifth. It was a solo home run from Zarate in the bottom of the 5
th that finished out the scoring on the night.
Azua recorded her final strikeout of the game in the top of the 6
th, and would call game with a trio of ground outs in the 7
th.
After today's game, Texas State is now 4-2on the season.
