CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Texas State Volleyball pushed Oregon State to four sets on Thursday but ultimately came up short in the 3-1 loss.
The Bobcats (6-8 overall, 1-2 Pac-12) took the third set thanks to three service aces and two blocks to the Beavers' (7-6 overall, 2-0 Pac-12) one but were outdone on offense in the final set.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: 15-25
The first set was squarely in Oregon State's favor as the Beavers registered a .400 [14-4-25] hitting percentage to Texas State's .038 [7-6-26] and never tied the score nor surrendered the lead. Senior
Brooke Bentke led the Bobcats' offense with three kills while junior
Anna Blaine recorded the only block in the set thanks to a solo effort.Â
Set 2: 22-25
The second set was much like the first though Texas State's offense improved from a .038 hitting percentage in the first to a .229 in the second. The Bobcats put up a better fight in the second, 12 kills to the Beavers' 13, and even bested their opponent in service aces, 3-2. Sophomore
Peyton McKee registered a team-high four kills on 10 swings in the second set for a .400 hitting clip while Bentke and redshirt freshman
Ashley Euston combined for one block.
Set 3: 25-22
Despite Oregon State's best efforts to sweep the Bobcats, Texas State took advantage of costly service errors from the Beavers to steal the third set. Both teams tied the score a total of 14 times and exchanged the lead a total of four, but the Bobcats outscored the Beavers 5-2 in the final points. The third frame saw four Bobcats record at least two kills led by junior
Caelyn Robel with four. Bentke, Euston, and McKee all aided Robel on offense with two kills each. At the net, McKee led with two blocks while fifth year
India Bennett and Euston were responsible for the second.
Set 4: 21-25
The final set of the night was dictated by Oregon State's 15 kills to Texas State's nine and two Beaver blocks to none for the Bobcats. Robel posted the most kills in the set for the second-straight frame with three while Bentke and MeKee were right behind her with two each.Â
QUOTABLE
From Head Coach Sean HuietÂ
"Bottom line is we aren't playing consistently enough to win matches. We are starting slow and digging ourselves into holes too often. This team needs to get their swagger back and play like we know they can."

- The Bobcats bested the Beavers at the service line with nine service aces to the host's seven.
