BOISE, Idaho – Texas State Volleyball fell to Boise State in three sets on Saturday.
In the loss, the Bobcats (6-9 overall, 1-3 Pac-12) swung for a .157 [34-18-102] hitting percentage led by junior
Caelyn Robel with 12 kills. The Broncos (10-6 overall, 2-1 Pac-12) took the win behind a .340 [48-12-106] hitting percentage and seven blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: 20-25
Robel led the offense in the first set with five kills thanks to a .444 [5-1-9] hitting percentage. Freshman
Izzy Scholvin put together a stellar performance at the service line with four service aces. At the net, both Robel and fifth year
India Bennett combined for the first block of the day.
Set 2: 21-25
Texas State's offense improved in the second set, moving from 10 kills in the first frame to 13 in the second and going from a .200 hitting percentage to a .212. Sophomore
Peyton McKee led with five kills while Robel followed up with four kills of her own. Fifth year
Jasmine Purakal added a service ace to the stat sheet, and both McKee and redshirt freshman
Ashley Euston were responsible for the single block of the set. The back row defense was also the strongest in the second set with 14 total digs led by Purakal with four.
Set 3: 18-25
Three different Bobcats led the offense in the final frame as senior
Brooke Bentke, McKee, and Robel all posted three kills each. Bennett dominated the net with three blocks while freshman
Emma Elsasser recorded the first two blocks of her career. Sophomore
Naara Tanco and Bentke rounded out Texas State's blocking efforts with one each to bring the total to a match-high 3.5 in the frame.
NOTABLES
- Two Bobcats finished in double figures: Junior Caelyn Robel finished with 12 kills and sophomore Peyton McKee recorded 10.
- Texas State finished with 5.5 blocks, marking the second time this season the Bobcats were credited with a triple block.
- During the match, the score was tied a total of 19 times and featured six lead changes. The second set was the most eventful with 11 tied scores and four lead changes.
- Seven different Bobcats recorded at least one block. Fifth year India Bennet led the way with four.
- On the back row, all but three players that participated recorded at least one dig. Fifth year Jasmine Purakal led the with eight.
- Texas State ran a 6-2 against Boise State, with freshman setter Izzy Scholvin recorded 11 assists and junior setter Anna Blaine tallying 16.
