Women’s Tennis Claims 5-2 Victory at UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas– Texas State women's tennis closed its weekend road trip with a 5-2 victory over UTRGV on Saturday at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center.

The Bobcats carried momentum from Friday's 6-1 win over St. Mary's, sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point before earning four singles victories to secure their second win of the spring.

Doubles
Texas State finished a perfect 6-0 in doubles play over the weekend, winning all six matches against St. Mary's and UTRGV.
 
Senior Ireland Simme and freshman Olivia Collins opened doubles action on court one with a 6-1 win over Mariia Bakhtina and Barbara Martinez. 

On court three, sophomores Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory against Luna Buijtenhuijs and Valentina Urraco.

The final doubles match came on court two, where Stoney Cooks and Charlotte Roesch defeated Rhea Makesar and Hitakamya Narwal, 6-3.

Singles
Collins secured the first singles point for the Bobcats on court six, defeating Madeleine Joffe in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Collins finished the weekend 2-0 on court six.

Simme followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Buijtenhuijs on court four, improving to 2-0 on the weekend in singles play.

UTRGV earned its first point on court two, where Makesar topped Roesch in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Senior Emily Niers answered on court one, battling past Barbara Martinez in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Niers went 2-0 in singles play over the weekend, earning wins on courts one and two.

Texas State clinched the match on court five as Cooks rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Bakhtina, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, pushing the Bobcats ahead 5-2.

The final match of the day saw UTRGV collect its second point as Narwal defeated Mauchi in three sets on court three, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2.

With two road wins on the weekend, Texas State evened its record at 2-2 and will look to build on that momentum next weekend. The Bobcats return home Feb. 6 and 8 to host New Mexico State and Sam Houston.
