Bobcats Claim First Victory at St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO, Texas– Texas State women's tennis earned its first win of the spring season Friday, defeating St. Mary's 6-1 at the Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point, then carried that momentum into singles play, where they secured five victories to seal the match.

Doubles
Texas State went 3-0 in doubles, with courts one through three finishing in order.

On court one, senior Ireland Simme and freshman Olivia Collins earned a 6-3 victory over Janel Ospanova and Selina Wu.

Tadiwa Mauchi and Charlotte Roesch followed with a 6-3 win on court two against Gia Posito and Alessia Terlizzi.

The final and most competitive doubles match came on court three, where Julia Richardet and Zoe Du Pasquier Jensen edged Breeze Simon and Sarah Wooten, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point.

Singles 
Senior Ireland Simme got Texas State on the board in singles with a straight-set win on court four, defeating Isabella Olsson 6-1, 6-2.

St. Mary's lone point came on court one, where Alessia Terlizzi defeated Charlotte Roesch, 6-3, 6-0.

Tadiwa Mauchi followed with a strong performance on court three, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Janel Ospanova. Mauchi pulled away in the second set to extend the Bobcats' lead.

Freshman Olivia Collins secured another point on court six, winning a first-set tiebreak before closing out a 7-6(7-3), 6-3 win over Breeze Simon.

The longest match of the day came on court two, where senior Emily Niers outlasted Selina Wu in three sets. Niers won the opening set 6-4, dropped the second 6-3, and prevailed 10-8 in the third-set tiebreak.

Freshman Stoney Cooks closed the match on court five, defeating Sarah Wooten 7-5, 7-5.

Texas State continues its road trip Saturday with a noon match at UTRGV in Edinburg, Texas.
