SAN MARCOS, Texas – Kyra Anderson continued her streak of form with her second-consecutive double-double in the Bobcats 65-61 win over Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon.
In the come-from-behind effort, Anderson recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds, with 13 of those points coming in the Bobcats' second-half effort.
Angela Carroll contributed nine points and six rebounds on the night as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bobcats faced some early scoring woes in the first quarter which saw them trailing after the first 10 minutes. Despite that, the Monarchs were also struggling with scoring, so the Bobcats had just a five-point deficit, trailing 12-7 after the first quarter.
The team's shooting improved in the second quarter and they were able to score 12, with four from each Anderson and
Myri Walker off the bench. Despite that, the Bobcats still trailing 27-19 at halftime.
The third quarter was a chess match between the two teams as Texas State fought to come back, but the Monarchs were matching their scoring to keep the team at bat. Despite the Bobcats improving their shooting both from the field and at the free-throw line, Texas State went into the final quarter of play trailing by eight.
It was the fourth quarter when Anderson came alive, though. She helped Texas State by scoring nine points, including a crucial and-one in the middle of the quarter that made it a one-possession game for the Bobcats. The next bucket was a
Saniya Burks three-pointer to take the lead in the game. From there, Texas State pushed the boards, outrebounding ODU 14-5 in the fourth quarter, to earn extra possessions and find a way to win the game. In the end, Texas State would grit out a 65-61 win despite trailing for 35:22 of the game.
Texas State is now 9-10 on the season and 5-4 in Sun Belt play after today's win vs Old Dominion.
