Burks Scores 27 against Troy Trojans

SAN MARCOS, Texas –   Saniya Burks scored 27 for her sixth 20+ point game this season despite the Bobcats falling 67-63 on Saturday afternoon.

Burks was the lone Bobcat in double digits for scoring on 9-19 shooting, going 7-17 from beyond the arc. Kyra Anderson contributed defensively, though, just shy of a double double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite the Trojans starting off on a 10-0 scoring run, Texas State bounced back well to make it a one-point game by the end of the first quarter. Burks started off her hot shooting night with two three pointers and two free throws in the first quarter to help Texas State outscore Troy 17-8 in the final five minutes of the first quarter. Kyla McBride also came off the bench for four points in the first.

The second quarter saw bot the Bobcats offense and defense working effectively as they scored 19 on 7-11 shooting while limiting the Trojans to just 5-17 shooting. Burks added another nine points to her tally on 3-5 three-point shooting. That, alongside four from freshman Angela Carroll helped the Bobcats outscore Troy 19-14 in the second quarter and lead 36-32 at the half.

Burks' three's kept falling in the third quarter as she drained another two and hit a jumper for eight more points out of the halftime break. She scored eight of the Bobcats 12 in the third as Troy regained the lead with a 19-point quarter.

It was a battle to the end in the fourth quarter, though. After both sides were struggling to score in the early staged of the quarter, it became a battle at the free throw line. Troy shot 8-10 from the line while Texas State went 5-10, which came back to matter in the end of a four-point split between the two sides. Troy was able to hold on to the lead and won 67-63.

Texas State is now 7-10 on the season and 3-4 in Sun Belt play after today's loss to Troy.
