Women's Basketball Falls to Southern Miss in Kids Game

SAN MARCOS, Texas –   Despite the support of over 2,500 local elementary school students cheering them on, Texas State women's basketball fell 76-62 to Southern Miss on Wednesday afternoon.

Kyra Anderson continued her streak of form with 16 points and four rebounds. Alongside her, Taleiyah Gibbs put up a career high 15 points against the Golden Eagles, while bringing down six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State struggled with rebounds in the first quarter, and that and the extra free throws the Golden Eagles got was the difference maker in the first quarter. While Texas State was able to score 12, the Golden Eagles had eight offensive rebounds to the Bobcats three to help them go up 21-12 after the first.

The second quarter was more evenly matched between the two sides, despite both team's shooting percentages dropping. Southern Miss scored 13 to the Bobcats 12 to take a 34-23 lead at the halftime break.

Gibbs came alive in the third quarter with seven points on 3-4 shooting. She and Anderson combined for 13 of the team's 17 points in the third quarter. Despite that, though, Southern Miss went 4-6 from the three-point range to score 21.

The Bobcats outscored Southern Miss in the fourth quarter after Saniya Burks came alive for eight points, alongside six other Bobcats scoring in the fourth quarter. Despite that, though, Texas State was not able to overcome the deficit and fell 76-62.

Texas State is now 7-9 on the season and 3-3 in Sun Belt play after today's loss to Southern Miss.
