SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State claimed a 1-0 victory Sunday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex over Troy. The win extended the Bobcats' home Sun Belt Conference and overall unbeaten streaks to 12 and three matches, respectively.

With the victory, Texas State improved to 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play while the Trojans dropped to 5-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in the Sun Belt.

Both teams ended up taking 15 shots apiece but the Bobcats held a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Victoria Meza led all players with four shots with three being on frame. Both
Helen Alormenu and
Mady Soumare attempted three shots each that saw Soumare place all of attempts on goal.

In goal,
Brooklyn Escobar recorded her second straight shutout while only having to make one save on the evening.

Troy took nine shots in the first half with five of them being blocked by a Bobcat defender. The best opportunity in the period for the visitors came in the 33rd minute. Jiselle Daniels saw her shot get blocked but Alaina Uncapher took a follow up from just beyond the 18-yard box that clanked off the crossbar.

For Texas State, the best chance in the opening half came off a corner kick.

Angela Gatto got her head on. Taylor Richards had to leap to push the ball over the bar to keep the contest scoreless.

After some halftime adjustments, the Bobcats were able to come through with the breakthrough goal in the 49th minute. Alormenu threw the ball into Soumare, who passed it back to the sophomore midfielder. The Ghanian sent in a cross that Meza, who chested the ball down. After the ball bounced off the ground and back into the air, she unleashed a left-footed shot just under the crossbar for her third goal of the season.

Soumare nearly doubled the lead four minutes later when Alormenu headed the ball into the box. The Parisian was able to get around a defender to get a shot attempt off. However, the ball went right to the goalkeeper.

In the 61st minute, Daniels was able to get back a TXST defender in the box for a one-on-one opportunity with Escobar. The Trojan sent a left-footed shot towards the back post. The freshman keeper dove and was able to get her right hand on the ball to redirect it wide of the post.

Next up for the Bobcats is a home match on Saturday against Georgia State for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
