IRVING, Texas – Bobcat tight end
Titus Lyons was named Texas State's nominee for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a
senior who will complete his
final year of eligibility in the 2025 season
or graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and participating in the 2024 season; have a
GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have
outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor; and have demonstrated
strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
Lyons graduated Summa Cum Laude from TXST as an integrated studies major and is currently working toward his master's in criminal justice. He is a multi-time member of the Dean's List and was named the 2025 Texas State Athletics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Pottsboro, Texas, native has also been honored as part of the 2025 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, was a 2023 CSC Academic All-District selection and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success Class of 2023.
Lyons has played in 33 games for the Bobcats over three seasons, registering 16 receptions for 111 yards while helping TXST to back-to-back SERVPRO First Responder Bowl Championships.
"Titus is the epitome of hard work, dedication and trusting in the process," TXST tight ends coach
Will Bryant said. "Once he got here, we knew he was a guy who did things the right way to take care of business… a 4.0 student, doing so well in the weight room and making plays on the football field and had the opportunity to earn a scholarship. Now you look up and he's going into his fourth year at Texas State and into his third year starting for us and he's a guy that's played over 1,000 snaps for the Bobcats and one player we look forward to watching have an explosive year for us."
The Bobcats were picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference's West Division as announced in the 2025 preseason coaches poll, sharing first-place votes with division-favorite Louisiana.
TXST won its second consecutive bowl game and finished the 2024 slate 8-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play, winning the most Sun Belt league games for the program since 2014. The eight overall wins gave the Bobcats back-to-back seasons of reaching the mark, having not done so since the 1982-83 seasons, while
GJ Kinne became the first head coach to record consecutive eight-win seasons since Jim Wacker in 1981-82.
TXST opens the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30 at home against Eastern Michigan. Season tickets are on sale now. Fans can also access gameday benefits like parking and pregame hospitality by joining or renewing their Bobcat Club membership. Click
