HUNTSVILLE, Texas– Texas State softball split its day in Huntsville with a win in the Bobcats halted game from Feb. 18 and a loss to the Bearkats in the full game.
Texas State won 9-3 after finishing the final three innings of the game from the halted game. Then the team suffered a 4-0 loss to the Bearkats in the full game afterwards.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State 9, Sam Houston 3
After 43 days, Texas State was able to finish its game against the Sam Houston Bearkats. Due to inclement weather, the game was halted on Feb. 18. Texas State was up 7-1 with runs from
Erin Peterson, Mel Reeves,
Keely Williams,
Emily Fish and
Sydney Harvey when the game was halted. Maddy Azua was in the circle. The game was halted at the end of the 4
th inning.
Texas State resumed its game in Huntsville at Bearkat Softball Complex on Wednesday, April 2. Both sides were retired in order in the 5th inning, Sam Houston was able to make a dent in the deficit off a two-run home run in the top of the 6th.
In the bottom half of the inning, Texas State was able to add two runs off a sac-fly from
Karmyn Bass and an RBI fielder's choice from
Ciara Trahan. Those two runs were the final of the game.
Azua retired the Bearkats in order again in the top of the 7
th to finish the game out.

The Bobcats were retired in order in the first inning, which was followed up by the Bearkats putting up two runs. One was off an RBI single from, the next was off a wild pitch from
Emma Strood. Strood came out for
Analisa Soliz in the bottom of the first with two outs. She'd get out of the inning without allowing any more runs.
After
Aiyana Coleman was hit by a pitch to lead off the 2
nd inning, the Bobcats were retired in order from there. In the bottom half of the 2
nd inning, Sam Houston scored a third run off an RBI double.
Texas State got two runners on from walks in the third, but left them stranded with three ground outs. The Bearkats weren't able to add any runs in the third.
Coleman had the first hit of the game for the Bobcats on a single through the left side. She got out at 2
nd on
Megan Kelnar's at bat. The Bobcats were unable to find any runs, though. The Bearkats got two runs in the bottom of the 4
th but also left runners stranded.
Sam Houston added a run in the 5
th and
Presley Glende came into pitch. She'd allow one runner on, but get the final out of the inning with the bases loaded.
In the sixth, Texas State got two runners on from singles, but stranded runners again. Glende walked one batter in the bottom of the 6
th but escaped the inning without allowing any runs.
Texas State was unable to add any runs in the 7
th and would finish the game with a 4-0 loss.
After today's games, Texas State is 22-11 on the season and 5-4 in Sun Belt play.
