CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – The Texas State men's golf team closed out action at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial with an eighth-place finish and were led by
Jack Burke, who concluded the tournament tied for 14th.
It was the third time overall, and second consecutive, that the senior has led the TXST lineup in nine tournaments this season, doing so by finishing 1-over at the 54-hole event. Burke (66-72-76--214) opened the tournament with his sixth round in the 60s in 2024-25 and now has 15 rounds even or below par.
As a team, the Bobcats (282-290-306--878) had their best round on the opening 18 at 2-under and went on to finish +26. No. 11 Florida State took the team title at -13. No. 13 Virginia was second at -8 and No. 27 Northwestern third shooting even par.
"I thought we had a good week," said Head Coach
Shane Howell. "Played some good golf for 27 holes before the wind started to blow. Today's conditions were exceptionally tough with 40 mph winds, but the guys hung in there."
Sakke Siltala (72-69-77--218), who was competing in his ninth tournament of the season alongside Burke and freshman
Jaxon Donaldson, was second in the TXST lineup tied for 32nd at +5. The junior posted his low round on the second 18 for his team-leading ninth round in the 60s the season and went 6-over on the final day.
Ben Loveard (72-75-75--222) finished tied for 45th at +9 after leading the Bobcats with a 75 on the final day and having all three of his rounds count towards the team score, while
Jaxon Donaldson (72-77-78--227) finished tied for 56th and
Brannan Cox (77-74-81--232) tied for 70th.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday when they take on the field at the Sun Belt Conference Championship held at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi. The four-day event will feature three rounds of stroke play and conclude with match play for the top four advancing teams. Fans can catch the action on ESPN+.
"We are ready for the conference tourney next week and can't wait to get to Annandale," Howell added.
