SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis secured a 4-1 victory over Arkansas State in Sun Belt Conference action Sunday. With the win, the Bobcats move to 12-3 on the season and 3-1 in league play, while Arkansas State falls to 9-5 and 2-1 in conference.
"Huge win for us today," said head coach
Kendall Brooks. "I'm so proud of the girls and the composure and fight they showed. We really wanted to close out the weekend with another conference win, but we knew this team was going to be tough. It was great to take the momentum after doubles and then so happy we were able to finish."
Texas State jumped out to the 1-0 lead after sealing the doubles point with a sweep from
Callie Creath and
Kiana Graham on court three and a victory on court one from
Sofia Fortuno and
Ireland Simme.
It was Arkansas State who picked up the first singles point, but the Bobcats rattled off three straight for the 4-1 win.
TXST has now won two of its last three since falling on the road to Coastal Carolina. The 12 total wins this season give TXST its most since going 14-6 in 2012.

Doubles
The teams traded wins to open doubles play after Creath and Graham made quick work of their opponents winning 6-0, but the Red Wolves bounced back, defeating
Chantajah Mills and
Emily Niers, 6-3, on court two.
TXST clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win from Fortuno and Simme on court one.
Singles
All three individual victories came in straight sets for the Bobcats with Fortuno clinching the win at 6-3, 6-2 on court four to give her a second straight win on that line. Graham picked up 6-1, 6-4 victories on line one and Niers won her 11th of the season at 6-4, 6-2 on court three.
Courts one and five went unfinished as Creath and Simme won their first sets.
