SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State battled but fell on Tuesday night 5-3 to TCU from Bobcat Ballpark.

With the result, the Bobcats are now 8-8 on the season while the Horned Frogs won their sixth straight game to improve to 13-5.

Picking up the win was Nate Stern (1-0) after he threw two innings of relief with five strikeouts and gave up a run on one hit. Cohen Feser earned his first save of the season throwing a perfect ninth inning. Taking the loss was Jackson Mayo (0-1), who surrendered a run on two hits in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.

Jackson Teer started on the rubber for TXST. He tossed two frames with one strikeout and allowed a run on three hits. Both Matthew Tippie and Carson Laws threw two innings out of the bullpen with three and two strikeouts, respectively.

At the plate, Alana Shibley went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Zachary Gingrich also hit a homer and Chase Mora drove in a run.

TCU scored its first time to the dish with a run coming home on a wild pitch.

Gingrich tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the second. The freshman smashed a 1-2 offering 429 feet over the left centerfield wall for his first collegiate round tripper.

The Horned Frogs answered back in the next half inning with a run to retake the lead.

In the bottom of the third, Ryne Farber was walked on four pitches and then stole second. The sophomore advanced to third on a groundout. A 3-2 offering saw Mora hit it off the plate. TCU's pitcher fielded the ball but lobbed the throw to first, which allowed the Tomball, Texas native to beat it out for a single that plated Farber to tie the game at 2-2.

Over the next two innings, the Horned Frogs scored a run apiece to go up by two runs.

Shibley led off the sixth and sent a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall for his first home run as a Bobcat while cutting the deficit to 4-3.

TCU scored the final run of the game in the eighth on a home run by Jack Bell.

Next for Texas State is the Sun Belt Conference opening series which will take the team to North Carolina to take on App State beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
