Bobcat Women’s Basketball Falls Despite Burks 22-Point Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Despite a career-best 22-point night from true freshman Saniya Burks, Texas State dropped its game with Coastal Carolina 68-60 on Wednesday night.

Burks was one of three Bobcats in double-digits on Wednesday night in the teams loss. Jaylin Foster and Ja'Mia Harris each had 11 apiece while Destiny Terrell recorded a team best 12 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State struck first in this game with a layup from Foster to get things started for the Bobcats. From there, the two sides matched points most of the way through the first quarter, until Coastal Carolina went on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter. That run gave them a 20-14 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter was when Burks came alive, though, getting the Bobcats back into the game with 3-3 three-point shooting, all in a row. Her nine points led both sides in the second quarter and helped the Bobcats cut into the six-point deficit, entering the halftime break down just one. At the half, Burks had 14 points on 4-7 three-point shooting.

Things were back and forth in the third quarter as there were four lead changes and four tied scores in the third period alone. Ja'Mia Harris had a great third qarter, shooting 3-8 to get eight points which played a big part in the Bobcats entering the fourth quarter trailing by just one. While turnovers plagued the Bobcats in the third, they were able to keep the game close heading into the fourth.

Texas State matched points with the Chanticleers the first half of the the quarter. Despite this, though, a five-minute scoring drought through the fourth was enough for the Chanticleers to pull away. Texas State broke the scoring drought on a floater, but it was too late to stage a comeback. Texas State would go on to lost 68-60.
After today's win, Texas State is now 10-12 on the season and 4-8 in Sun Belt play.
