Bobcats Win a Pair of Matches to Move to 8-2 on the Season

Texas State beat UTRGV on Sunday and SFA on Monday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis moved to 8-2 on the season and extended its winning streak to seven matches after defeating UTRGV on Sunday and SFA on Monday.

The Bobcats defeated UTRGV 7-0 and beat SFA 6-1. Texas State outscored its opponents 13-1 and dropped only one singles and one doubles match across the two matches.

Texas State's seven-match win streak is the third-longest for the program since 2012. Last season, the Bobcats won eight consecutive matches, and in 2012, they won nine straight.

On Sunday, the Bobcats swept the Vaqueros 7-0 and earned their seventh win of the season. TXST won two of the three doubles matches en route to securing the doubles point and went on to win all six singles matches.

Doubles
UTRGV won the first doubles match 6-2 on court one, but the Bobcats fought back to win the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. On court two, Chantajah Mills and Ireland Simme won their match 6-3, earning their fourth win as a pair.

Kiana Graham and Callie Creath clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court three. The duo has won seven matches this season and has dropped just one match on court three.

Singles
TXST continued its momentum in singles play, winning all six matches. Graham was the first Bobcat to finish, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 on court No. 1.

Following Graham, Bobcats Maria Lora and Emily Niers earned wins on courts six and four. Lora, playing her first singles match of the season, won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

Niers won her sixth straight match 6-3, 6-2, secured her first win of the year on court four, and clinched the match for the Bobcats by earning the fourth point.

The next win for TXST came on court No. 5 from Ireland Simme. Simme dropped the first set 7-5 but battled back to win the second set 6-1. Her opponent retired in the third set, giving TXST a 5-0 lead.

The sixth and seventh points for the Bobcats came from Sofia Fortuno on court three and Callie Creath on line two. Fortuno won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, and Creath also won in straight sets 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2).

Both Fortuno and Creath earned their fourth singles wins of the year after their victories over the Vaqueros.

TXST recorded its second win of the week after defeating SFA 6-1 on Monday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The Bobcats won back-to-back doubles matches to secure the point and went on to win five of the six singles matches.

Doubles
Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora earned the first win of the day on court No. 1 in doubles with a 6-3 victory over SFA's pair.

Chantajah Mills and Ireland Simme clinched the doubles point for TXST with a 6-3 win on court No. 2. This marked the duo's fifth win on court two.

The match on court three, featuring Kiana Graham and Callie Creath, went unfinished after TXST clinched the doubles point. Graham and Creath were tied 4-4 against the Ladyjacks' Avery Kinsey and Ksenia Mamontova.

Singles
Fortuno earned the first singles win of the match, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead after a 6-3, 6-0 straight-set victory on court three.

The score quickly moved to 3-0 thanks to Graham on court No. 1. She won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 and earned her fifth consecutive win.
SFA picked up a point on court four, moving the score to 3-1. Freshman Bobcat Tadiwa Mauchi dropped her match 4-6, 2-6, moving to 4-2 on the season.

Ireland Simme clinched the match for TXST on court five. Simme won in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, extending her win streak to seven. She now sits at 8-0 on the season and leads the team in singles victories.

Emily Niers also extended her win streak to seven with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Antonella Taco on court five, pushing the Bobcats' lead to 5-1.

Creath, competing on court two, closed out the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 1(10)-0 (8) victory, sealing TXST's 6-1 win.
