SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball suffered a 71-54 loss to Louisiana on Wednesday night.
Â
Saniya Burks led the team in scoring with 14 points, alongside
Ja'Mia Harris who had 11 of her own. Burks had 5-9 shooting while going 4-8 from beyond the arc.
Nicole Leff also tied her season best with seven rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Louisiana got off to a quick 7-0 start in the game, but the Bobcats were able to find their way back in the latter half of the quarter. Despite a four-minute scoring drought that found the Bobcats down 16-3, they battled back. Burks had three three-point attempts in the first quarter alone for nine of her 11 points through the first 10 minutes. That helped the Bobcats battle back with a 12-4 run to end the first quarter trailing 20-15.
Â
Throughout the second quarter, the Bobcats were able to find their groove as they outscored the Ragin' Cajuns 10-9. Texas State even led at one point in the quarter, by a 25-22 scoreline. However, a 7-0 run by the Ragin' Cajuns to end the quarter gave them a lead again heading into the break.Â
Â
The Bobcats were able to keep themselves in the game through the third, largely because of efficient free-throw shooting. Texas State shot 8-9 from the line in the third to help counteract the 3-10 field goal shooting. The Ragin' Cajuns shot 50% on 5-10 shooting for 17 points in the third. Headed to the last quarter, Texas State trailed by five with a 46-41 scoreline.
Â
Despite Texas State scoring the first basket in the fourth, the Ragin' Cajuns then went on a 7-0 run to lead 54-43 at the first media timeout. Terrell and Harris both fouled out in the fourth quarter, forcing the Bobcats to adjust their style of play towards the end of the game. Despite playing most of the quarter on four fouls,
Jaylin Foster tallied seven points in the fourth quarter. The Ragin' Cajuns prolific shooting helped them to a 25-point quarter that resulted in a double-digit win for Louisiana.
Texas State fell 71-54 to the Ragin' Cajuns on Wednesday night. After today's game, Texas State is now 10-14 on the season and 4-10 in Sun Belt play.
