Burke Second, Bobcats Fifth After Two Rounds at Hal Williams

MOBILE, Alabama – Jack Burke fired a pair of rounds in the 60s to lead the Texas State men's golf team after two rounds at the Hal Williams Collegiate hosted by South Alabama at the Magnolia Grove Golf Club.

The senior used a season-low 65 in the first round, which he followed up with a 68 in the second, to give himself a 36-hole, 9-under 133 and place him just three strokes back from leader Zach Kingsland (-12) of SMU. Burke's 11 birdies, seven of which came in the opening round, is the second highest total at the tournament. He now has three rounds in the 60s for the season as well as six of 11 under par.

As a team, the Bobcats sit fifth at 9-under through 36 holes, just two strokes out of a tie for third. The team's round-one 278 is the second lowest of the season after carding a 274 in the second round of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at the end of September. No, 15 SMU leads the event at -20, while Kent State is second at -12 and Kansas State and Memphis sit tied for third at -11.

Jaxon Donaldson is 3-under with rounds of 69 and 70 to place him inside the top 20 in a tie for 17th, while Ben Loveard climbed 20 spots on the individual leaderboard with a second-round 69. He is tied for 46th.
