Bobcats Win at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas State women's basketball got its first win of the year with a 53-43 result on the road at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Thursday afternoon.
 
Saniya Burks led the Bobcats in scoring for her second-consecutive 20+ point night with 21 including a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Burks 10 made attempts makes her the first Bobcat since Ja'Niah Henson in Feb. 2024 to make 10+ free throws in a single game. 
 
Alongside her outing, Kyla McBride and Kyra Anderson each had nine points. Anderson paired her nine points with a team-best seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Free throws were also the difference maker in this game, with Texas State shooting 18-24 in comparison to TAMUCC's 10-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Texas State started out with efficient shooting that helped the Bobcats get out to an 11-2 lead early in the game. From there, they maintained a 14-7 lead through the end of the first quarter. Anderson and Burks each tallied five to lead the Bobcats in the first quarter. Texas State limited TAMUCC to just 2-10 shooting in the first.
 
The second quarter was all Bobcats as the team pushed itself to a game-best 21-point lead to end the first half. Texas State led 36-15 at the halftime break after a 22-point second quarter. Helping the Bobcats to their 22-point quarter was seven from Burks. Corpus Christi shot just 3-9 with just one free throw, while Texas State shot 7-7. 
 
TAMUCC slowed the Bobcats down a bit out of the halftime break, holding them to 11 points despite efficient 4-8 shooting. TAMUCC shot 8-16 with four free throws to score 24 and bring the game within single digits again by the end of the third.
 
Both sides made just one shot in the fourth quarter, but Texas State continued to win the battle at the free throw line to keep the Islanders at bay and win the game. Texas State tallied four of its points from the free throw line to outscore the Islanders and win 53-43 in the end. 
 
Texas State improves to 1-4 on the season after the 53-43 win.
