Soccer Sets Unbeaten Streak Mark in Comeback Draw

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomore Helen Alormenu headed in the match-tying goal late in the 75th minute as Texas State came back to claim a 1-1 draw with Louisiana on Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. With the result, the Bobcats are now undefeated in their last 14 home conference matches to set a new program record.

The draw saw TXST move to 7-2-4 on the season and 4-0-2 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Ragin' Cajuns are now 5-4-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference play.

Alormenu led the Bobcats with three shots while Mady Soumare and Matsuri Tsutsui both took two attempts apiece. Louisiana held a 16-13 advantage in shot while Texas State put six of its attempts on frame compared to just three for the visitors.

Brooklyn Escobar made two saves on the afternoon with one in each half.

Soumare had a terrific opportunity late in the 11th minute on a through ball into the box. Her low, hard attempt was blocked by the goalkeeper as she timed her charging diving to block the shot.

A stumble by a Bobcat defender allowed Carson Glenn to drive into the box. She got just enough room to send a low shot just inside the left post to put the Cajuns in front 1-0 early in the 14th minute.

Halftime adjustments and formation changes led to more opportunities for Texas State. It wouldn't be until the team found the breakthrough late in the 75th minute.

Alexis Montgomery passed the ball to Victoria Meza, who took a couple of dribbles before sending a long ball into the box. Alormenu ran behind two defenders and headed the ball down. It bounced off the ground and into the right-side netting to the tie the match on her team leading fifth goal of the season.

Only the Cajuns would put a shot on frame the rest of the match. That came from Glenn in the 88th minute that saw Escobar smother the low try.

Next up for the Bobcats is a trip out East to take on Coastal Carolina. Next Sunday's contest is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff.
