TROY, Alabama — Texas State volleyball opened its road slate of Sun Belt games with a 3-1 win at Troy on Thursday night.
Samantha Wunsch and
Nina Moorer had 14 and 13 kills apiece to lead the Bobcats to the four-set win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State started off the match with some offensive struggles, swinging just 11-6-29 for a .172 attack line, while Troy swung an efficient 14-4-28 for a .357 attack line. The Bobcats errors helped Troy to take a lead, and despite a battle at the end, Texas State fell 25-19 in set one.
The Bobcats bounced back well in set two, though, winning 25-23 with a nail-biting first set. The Bobcats were able to limit the Trojans to just 13 kills and forced them to have five errors while
Nina Moorer led both sides with six kills on 14 swings. Texas State led most of the way through the set, but Troy was able to pull the score close towards the end. Ultimately, a kill from
Samantha Wunsch called set two for the 'Cats.
Set three was a similarly tight set, with Texas State taking a 27-25 win. With 12 tied scores and five lead changes, it could've been anyone's set but Texas State was able to get the win.
Isabella Andrews served an ace on set point to win it, after
Nina Moorer's kill gave the Bobcats the chance to win the set. Texas State's block kept the third set close as they recorded 5.0 team blocks in the third set alone. The team recorded a season-best 14.0 team blocks tonight.
The fourth set was another defensive showing for the Bobcats, as their 5.0 team blocks were the difference maker in the set. Both sides struggled to swing, with nine attack errors for Texas State and eight for Troy. Despite this, Texas State was able to come away with a 25-23 win and win the match in four sets.
After today's four set win over Troy, Texas State is 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in Sun Belt play.
