SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball dropped its game with Arkansas State by a 66-50 scoreline.
Â
Jaylin Foster led the Bobcats in scoring and rebounds tonight with her second double-double of conference play, going for 11 points and 14 rebounds on the night. She led both sides in rebounding, the lone player to bring down double-digit boards tonight.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Texas State struggled shooting from the field early in the game, going just 3-11 in comparison to the Red Wolves 6-16. Texas State was able to keep themselves in the game with 4-6 free throw shooting. The first quarter ended with the Bobcats down eight with a 18-10 scoreline.
The Bobcats found their stride in the second quarter, though, improving their shooting to 6-14 to tally 17 points. The Bobcats limited the Red Wolves to just 12 points to make it a three-point game heading into the halftime break.
Crystal Smith led the Bobcats with 2-3 shooting in the second for six points, while
Ja'Mia Harris had five of her own.
Â
Early in the second half, the Bobcats fought to tie the game. After a Foster three-pointer made things 35-33, there was a media timeout. Out of the timeout,
Sierra Dickson scored two to make it a tie game. Despite this, though, shooting woes in the second half of the third quarter saw the Bobcats with another deficit to overcome. After being outscored 11-2 in the final 4:30 of the quarter saw the Bobcats down 46-37 after three quarters.
Â
The Bobcats worked to come back in the fourth but fell short. Off the bench, freshman
Heather Baymon led the Bobcats in points in with five off a quick three pointer and a layup in just three minutes of game action. That, paired with four from Foster helped the Bobcats to a 66-50 loss.
Texas State is now 7-7 this season and 1-3 in Sun Belt play.
