Women's Basketball Stopped by Golden Eagles

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi –  Texas State women's basketball fell on the road for just the second time in conference play by a 52-46 scoreline against Southern Miss.

Jaylin Foster continued her streak of double-digit nights with 12 tonight to make it seven of her last eight games in double digits. That, paired with 10 from Destiny Terrell led the Bobcats on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State fell early after early shooting woes forced the Bobcats to overcome an 8-0 start by Southern Miss. From there, they were able to work back in and make it an 8-4 game with all four points from Terrell. At the end of the first quarter, Texas State had a six-point deficit to overcome as they trailed 13-7.

The second quarter was even between both sides as they matched for 12 points each. Both sides were plagued by turnovers, with six from the Golden Eagles and seven from the Bobcats. Despite that, though, the Bobcats shot 4-10 from the field, including two three pointers, two make it a 25-19 game at the half.

Out of the half, Texas State was able to make some progress on the deficit from the first half. The Bobcats put up 13 in the third quarter, thanks in part to a five-point quarter from Saniya Burks. That, paired with limiting Southern Miss to 3-10 shooting and the Golden Eagles went just 2-6 from the free throw line. Texas State had the Golden Eagles within one possession, at 35-32, heading into the final quarter.

Texas State went on a 5-0 run to start the fourth to get themselves up 37-35. From there, though, Southern Miss answered with a 10-1 run of their own to go up 45-38 with less than three minutes to play. The Bobcats tried to battle back, but the Golden Eagles continued to match their points and would go on to win 52-46.
Texas State is now 9-11 on the season and 3-7 in Sun Belt play.
