NORFOLK, Virginia –  Texas State women's basketball continued its road success this season with a 65-60 comeback win at Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon. Despite going into the fourth quarter trailing by 10, Texas State shot 10-16 in the fourth quarter for 28 to overthrow the Monarchs for the win.
Â
Leading the charge for the Bobcats was graduate
Destiny Terrell who had 16 points on 7-12 shooting and six rebounds on the night. That and a 14 point night from
Jaylin Foster helped the Bobcats to the win. 12 of Fosters points and 11 from
Ja'Mia Harris in the fourth quarter pushed Texas State to the win.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Destiny Terrell led with eight of the Bobcats 14 points in the first quarter. Her 3-6 shooting helped the Bobcats keep ODU from scoring for nearly five consecutive minutes in the first quarter. The quarter ended with a highlight-reel buzzer beating three pointer from
Saniya Burks to give the Bobcats a four-point lead heading into the second quarter.
Â
The second quarter the Bobcats were plagued by turnovers. Despite shooting an efficient 4-9, nine turnovers gave the Monarchs extra opportunities they took advantage of to take the lead. ODU shot 9-18 while outscoring Texas State 23-9 in quarter two. At the half, Texas State trailed 33-23.Â
Â
Through the third quarter, it was a back-and-forth affair. Texas State shot 5-19 while the Monarchs went 5-17 and both teams matched at 14 points apiece. Despite not improving the Bobcats point deficit, the team brought momentum back in its favor to make it 47-37 heading into the final quarter of play.
Â
Texas State's offense came alive in the fourth quarter. Despite the Monarchs carrying a 14 point lead with eight minutes to go in the game, the Bobcats went on an 8-0 run to cut the Monarchs lead down to five. From there, it was all pure will from Foster, Harris and the rest of the Bobcats to push through to the end of the game. A deep three-pointer from Harris gave the Bobcats their first lead since the second quarter. From there, the Bobcats managed the game and iced it on 3-4 free throw shooting to win the game.
Â
Texas State is now 9-8 on the season and 3-4 in Sun Belt play, with two road conference wins.
