Head Coach GJ Kinne Quotes

On Taking Back Texas…

Yeah, it means a lot to different people and it started off as a recruiting tool, talking about recruiting high school kids in Texas and recruiting players that maybe have gone to other states and other universities to come back to Texas. And then, you know, I think it's about playing in-state opponents. We played Rice last year and we played Baylor last year and now getting one versus UTSA.

This win as a benchmark for the program…

Obviously this is just my second year here so I think it's right up there with the bowl game and Baylor game just off the top of my head, but I think there was a little bit more juice for this one being a rivalry game and just the way we played last year, we just didn't feel like we put our best game out there, best performance out there. So we've been working pretty much year-round and a lot of decisions went into tonight. It wasn't just what you saw out there. These coaches have been grinding for a really long time and really every recruiting move we made, every personnel decision we made was, 'Hey, does this allow us to beat UTSA?

On the play of Lincoln Pare...

Really super proud of Lincoln. I know last year was really tough on him, not getting to play, but man, he's a heck of a person and he was really like the running back coach last year. He took that role and ran with it, never pouted, never doubted himself. And he's a captain on this team and I love the way it was, it couldn't be any better than him closing out the game on that touchdown run.

Joshua Eaton
Biggest blowout win in rivalry… only ten points for UTSA…

That's our standard here now, last week we did a lot of things that we did not want to put on film so this week we talked about discipline, discipline, discipline, we know that if we were the most disciplined team, they didn't stand a chance. So that's what we displayed today."

First rivalry win meaning…
It means a lot, coming from another school and joining another team who has never done something like we did today. It feels great to be a part of history. It's no longer UTSA, they're talking about us now.

Crowd atmosphere effect…

Bobcat Nation came out today and showed out, they stole out the stadium, they were loud, we needed that on defense. That was a huge part of this win today for sure.

Jordan McCloud
First victory over UTSA in the series…

It's a blessing, shout out to the man upstairs. We came in with a great mindset and a great game plan. Our mindset today was just take everything one play at a time. Don't look back at the last play, don't look forward to the next play, just take everything as it is.

Is this what you envisioned in coming to Texas State…

100%, obviously looking at this school in Texas and in the Sunbelt, it's something that we have all the pieces to do exactly what we want to do. We have to take every game one game at a time.

On helping Texas State to the first win in the series…

It's definitely special, I'm here now so I knew they had never beat UTSA, so this was huge for us to be able to hold that trophy for the first time. It was special to see some of the guys get this win, especially the ones that have been here for a while."
