Bobcats Battle #13 Cowgirls to Scoreless Draw

STILLWATER, Okla. – Coming in as the underdog, Texas State stood toe-to-toe with 13th-ranked Oklahoma State Thursday night at Neal Patterson Stadium as the teams played to a scoreless draw. It was the first positive result for the Bobcats in program history when facing a ranked opponent.

"That was a really good result for us," said head coach Steve Holeman. "To shutout one of the best teams in the country on their field took a complete effort. They are very good in every position and we had to be at our best to keep them off the board."

"With that said, we created a handful of quality chances. We continue to get better as this season rolls on and are looking forward to the next one."

Caitlyn Draper matched her career-high with 11 saves that she set in last season's victory at Houston. Her save mark is tied for the fifth most in a match in team history. The sophomore also became just the second TXST goalkeeper to record 11 or more saves in multiple contests in their career, joining Kristen Kutt who recorded three such matches.

Mya Ulloa led TXST with a season-high four shots and placed three of her attempts on goal. Lily Erb was the only other Texas State player with multiple shot attempts as she took two. Both Kaylie Smith and Mady Soumare placed their lone shots on target.

The opening half saw the Cowgirls outshot TXST 12-5. Putting one shot attempt on frame apiece was Soumare and Ulloa while Draper came up with five of her saves.

Nearly three minutes into the second half, Erb hit a loose ball from 18 yards out that sailed just over the crossbar for the Bobcats' first good look on frame in the contest.

A free kick midway through the 58th minute saw Soumare control it in the box. Unable to get a shot off herself, she passed to an oncoming Ulloa. The senior connected solidly with the ball but it flew straight to the keeper.

Draper came up with the first of her two biggest saves of the evening with 20 minutes left on the clock. A short free kick saw the ball take a hop and the sophomore snagged the ball in traffic before an OSU player was able to get a touch on it.

With just over three minutes to play, Adelhia Ghonda hit a left-footed shot that was going towards the back post. Draper leapt and was able to tip the ball away to keep the shutout in tack.

Texas State continues its road trip on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Texas A&M-Commerce.
