LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — Texas State improved to 8-5 on the season and 2-0 in Sun Belt play with a sweep to beat Louisiana on Saturday afternoon.
 
The match was highlighted by heavy-hitting nights from Sam Wunsch with 18 kills and Bailey Hanner with 13. Those two, paired with a 39-assist outing from senior setter Ryann Torres helped the Bobcats to the sweep and win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set one came down to the wire between the two sides with 15 tied scores and five lead changes. Sam Wunsch started out the day hot with six of the Bobcats 12 kills in the first set. Ultimately, Texas State's defense showed out and won them the set. With 4.0 team blocks, including the set point, the Bobcats were able to win set one 27-25.
 
The Bobcats were able to get out to a lead early on in set two. Despite having four tied scores, the Bobcats were never down in set two. The team swung .342 with 18 kills in set two, with Wunsch and Bailey Hanner making up seven of those apiece. Hanner swung .636 in the second set for seven kills on 11 attempts with no errors. After a close first half of the set, Texas State went on a 3-0 run after being tied 18-18 and carried that momentum through to the end of the set to win 25-20.
 
In set three, the Bobcats continued to carry the momentum from set two. After having things tied 5-5, the Bobcats went on a 6-1 run to get up 11-6. From there, they extended their lead to 19-11. Louisiana fought back to narrow the gap in the third set, but four kills from Jade  Defraeye, including match point, and another five from Sam Wunsch got the Bobcats a 25-22 win in set three.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats will now return home for a pair of matches with Troy on Oct. 4^th and 5^th as part of Show 'Em State weekend inside Strahan Arena. This will be the Bobcats first time playing in Strahan Arena this season.
