HONOLULU, Hawaii — Texas State volleyball opened its first of three games in Hawaii with a 3-1 loss to the host side on Tuesday night. The Bobcats will look to bounce back on Thursday at 2 pm (HT) / 7 pm (CT) against Oregon State.

The opening set started off close between the two sides as things went to a 6-6 scoreline, but Hawaii was able to pull away with a string of points to go up 9-6. From there, Hawaii slowly chipped away at a lead and found their way to a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. Finishing the set with a 10-7 run they were able to get a 25-17 win in set one. The Hawaii defense limited Texas State to just nine kills in the first set and forced five attack errors and three service errors.

The Bobcats found a stride in set two, though with a dominate 25-15 win, the largest split in the scores on the evening. Texas State started the set on a 4-0 run highlighted by back-to-back blocks from
Jade Defraeye and Sam Wunsch. After forcing a Hawaii timeout, Texas State continued to roll to an 11-6Â Â lead courtesy of service from
Maggie Walsh. Texas State swung .379 (13-2-29) in est two while limiting the Rainbow Wahine to .135 (12-7-37). Ultimately Texas State was able to level the match after two with a 25-15 set two win.

Set three started off close in the first handful of points, but after tying things 4-4, Hawaii was able to go up 7-4 and carried that lead until the end of the set. Texas State was able to bring it within three points a handful of times, but ultimately the Rainbow Wahine expanded their lead to six and won set three 25-19.

Despite starting off set four matching scores up until 6-6, Hawaii was able to take the match in the fourth set. After going on a 6-0 run to take 6-6 to 12-6, Hawaii had enough of a lead to take the set. Despite the Bobcats battling back within three off a
Bailey Hanner kill, Hawaii ended the match on a 4-1 run to take set four 25-18.

Texas State suffered its second consecutive loss on Tuesday night to the Rainbow Wahine and will look to improve on Thursday against Oregon State. That game is slated for 2 pm (HT) / 7 pm (CT) in Honolulu.
