Bobcats Add Loveard as Transfer

The rising junior from Mississippi State will join the Bobcats starting in 2024-25

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Ben Loveard, a rising junior from Mississippi State, has signed to transfer to Texas State men's golf starting with the 2024-25 season, the program announced on Thursday.

Loveard, who has two years of eligibility left, has played in five tournaments throughout his collegiate career. A native of Luton, England, Loveard had a successful prep career prior to enrolling at Mississippi State. He was the runner-up at the 2021 English Men's National Championship and the 2021 Faldo Grand Final.

"We are thrilled to have Ben join our Bobcat golf team," said Texas State head coach Shane Howell. "Ben is a fierce competitor who wants to step in and help our program immediately continue to climb the collegiate rankings while chasing a Sun Belt championship."

This past season, Loveard played in two tournaments at Mississippi State, with a low round of 69 and 54-hole low of 220. He also earned a match play victory (6&5) during the SEC Match Play event in late September.

During his freshman season in 2022-23, he competed in three tournaments and had a season-best finish of 14th at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in February 2023.

Prior to Mississippi State, Loveard was the BB&O Player of the Year in 2021 after winning the Boy's Regional League and finishing fifth at the 2021 R&A Boys Amateur Championship and sixth at the 2021 English U18 Championship. In 2020, he won the Faldo-England Championship South I Region tournament and placed fourth at the English U18 Carris Trophy.

Texas State, which tied for third at the 2024 Sun Belt Championship, is set to return five players from this past season's team, including All-Sun Belt performers Sakke Siltala and Jack Burke.
