Bobcats Punch Out Season-High 15 Roadrunners Tuesday Night

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas State pitching staff recorded a season-high 15 strikeouts Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field. However, it would be UTSA that came away with the win by a score of 11-9.

Peyton Zabel matched his career-high with six strikeouts in 2.1 innings and Rhett McCaffety punched out four over the final two frames. Finishing with two strikeouts apiece was Tony Robie and Matthew Tippie while Otto Wofford had one strikeout.

Suffering the loss on the rubber was Jack Stroud (1-3) after giving up three runs on one hit and two hit batters while not recording an out. Braylon Owens (4-1) worked 2.2 innings to pick up the win and Fischer Kingsbery recorded the final four outs to earn his fifth save of the year.

Kameron Weil reached base all five times he came to the plate. The senior recorded two singles, two walks and one double while scoring three times. Also recording three base knocks was Aaron Lugo that included a double.

Both Chase Mora and August Ramirez went 2-for-4 on the day. Ramirez drove in three runs with two coming on his eighth home run of the season. Coming around to score twice was Daylan Pena.

A walk to Weil and Mora singling back up the middle to put runners on the corners to start off the game. Farber would hit a deep fly ball to center that allowed Weil to tag and trot home for the first run of the game. The Bobcats would score thrice more in the opening stanza with a run crossing the plate on a wild pitch, throwing error and a Ramirez single to right center.

The lead would grow to 5-0 after the top of the second when Lugo sent a line shot to right field for an RBI single.

Matt King started the next half inning with a solo home run to center field to put the hosts on the scoreboard. UTSA would go on to tack on two more runs. The Roadrunners would add another run in the third to make it a one-run contest.

UTSA would take the lead in the fourth on a grand slam by Mason Lytle.

Lugo started off the fifth by sending a 1-0 pitch down the third base line for a double. He would score when Powell went the other way to right field for a single to cut the deficit to 8-6.

The deficit grew to five when the Roadrunners plated three in the sixth that was extended on a TXST throwing error.

Ramirez hit his two-run homer in the seventh and Mora drove in a run on a single in the eighth to pull the Bobcats to within two. However, they would be set down in order in the ninth.
