WBB to Add Howard Transfer Taleyiah Gibbs

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball coach Zenarae Antoine announced the signing of Howard transfer Taleiyah Gibbs for the 2024-25 season.

Gibbs joins the Bobcats after spending her freshman year at Howard University where she played in 20 games. She was part of the Howard side that saw a narrow loss in the title game of the 2024 MEAC Championship.

"Taleiyah's work ethic and want to be her best, will allow her to flourish at Texas State," Antoine said. "She loves to compete and takes pride in her academic and athletic ventures.  That approach will blend well with our program."

Prior to her time at Howard, Gibbs had quite the preps career. Initially from South Carolina, Gibbs moved to Texas and played high school basketball for Killeen High School. She also played AAU for HoopShop. Gibbs was named the Newcomer of the Year at Killeen High School in her senior season and the 2022-23 District MVP. She also was named 1st Team All District while scoring 19.6 points a night with 8.5 rebounds.

"Taleiyah adds to our multi-position players," Antoine said. "She has length, athleticism, speed and the ability to defensively disrupt.  We are excited that she chose the Bobcats to continue her collegiate journey."

Former Killeen High School head coach and current assistant principal at Killeen High School said, "Taleiyah's talent is undeniable! Her enthusiasm for the game and desire to continue to play is electric. I am excited to have her back in the state of Texas and representing the Texas State Bobcats!"

Gibbs is the fourth transfer to join the Bobcats ahead of the 2024-25 season, totaling a group of eight incoming players for next season. She is joined by Bucknell transfer Blake Matthews, Incarnate Word transfer Destiny Terrell, Oklahoma State transfer Mia Galbraith, and four freshmen, Saniya Burks, Heather Baymon, Takeira Ramey and Melinda Winston.
