CHICAGO – Texas State Women's Basketball cruised to a 106-51 victory on Saturday thanks to double-digit efforts from five total Bobcats (2-0 overall). The Bobcats' 106 points against Chicago State on Saturday also marks the first time Texas State has scored more than 100 points against a Division I institution since 2013. On March 9, 2013, Texas State won a Western Athletic Conference game over San Jose State, 100-67.
The Bobcats jumped to an early 6-0 lead at the 8:48 mark in the first and ran away with the game, not allowing the Cougars (1-2 overall) to come within single digits after the second quarter. The biggest lead of the afternoon came in the last minute of the fourth as junior
Emma Pique cashed in on her third free throw of the night to push the Bobcats to a lead of 55.
As a team, Texas State shot an impressive 57.8% (37-for-64) from the field and posted a staggering 58.3% (14-for-24) shooting from the three-point line.
Almost 40% of Texas State's points came from the paint as the Bobcats recorded 42 of its 106 points from the key. The Bobcats' defense was just as impressive, forcing 23 Cougar (1-2 overall) turnovers and converting those miscues into 32 points off turnovers.
Senior
Crystal Henderson led the Bobcats in scoring with 23 points while junior
Saniya Burks was right behind her with 22. Henderson shot 7-for-10 from the field and a 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Burks was lethal from beyond the arc, shooting an incredible 6-for-10 and posting the most three pointers of any Bobcat on Saturday.
Both starting forwards,
Kyra Anderson and
Sofia Ceppellotti, recorded 10 and 12 points, respectively. Ceppellotti was almost unstoppable from the three-point line as all 12 of her points came from beyond the arc.
Anderson finished the afternoon with 10 points, going 4-for-9 from the floor and hitting both of her free throws.
Texas State also bested Chicago State in points from the bench, 33-19. Junior
Emma Pique was the most effective off the bench, totaling 10 points thanks to a 3-for-5 record from the field and shooting 50% from the charity stripe.
On defense, Texas State totaled 15 steals led by Henderson and Pique who tied at steals in three. Ceppellotti posted her first double double as a Bobcat, finishing with her 10 points and another 10 rebounds.
