Texas State Defeats ULM in Regular Season Finale

Texas State recorded its first 11-win season since 2011

MONROE, La. – Texas State women's tennis closed out its regular season, with a 4-0 victory over the University of Louisiana Monroe on Friday.
 
"Happy to get this win to finish out the regular season on the road," said Texas State head coach Kendall Brooks. "Proud of the team for how they handled the weather and changes and their resiliency to go out their and still get the job done. Now we will get back to work for a quick turnaround for the conference tournament."

The Bobcats (11-7, 5-5 Sun Belt) got off to a hot start, by winning the doubles point to begin match play. Kiana Graham and Callie Creath made their conference doubles debut and won their match 6-2 on court No. 3. Texas State's Maria Lora and Sofia Fortuno secured the doubles point, with a 6-4 victory on court one and earned their 10th win of the season. 

Texas State carried that momentum into the singles portion of the contest, where they won three consecutive singles matches and closed out the contest with a 4-0 victory. 
 
Fortuno secured the victory for Texas State, when she won in straight sets on court No. 4. She defeated ULM's Giovanna Pereira 6-3, 6-1 and secured her 11th singles win of the year. 
 
The Bobcat's finished the regular season with 11 wins, which is their most since 2011 when they went 12-8 overall. Texas State also earned its sixth road victory, which hadn't been done in 13 years. 
 
Doubles 
ULM's Angela Del Campo and Giovanna Pereira won the first doubles match of the day when they defeated Texas State's Emma Carr and Emily Niers 6-1 on court No. 2. 
 
Creath and Graham made their doubles debut as a pair on Friday and secured a 6-2 victory on court No. 3. 
 
Lora and Fortuno clinched the doubles point and earned their fifth conference victory, with a 6-4 win over the Warhawk's Tamara Bachmann and Alice Klinteby on court No. 1. 
 
Singles 
Lora earned the first singles point for the Bobcat's with, with a straight set victory over ULM's Raquel Alvaro on court No. 6. Lora won the match 6-1, 6-1 and earned her sixth singles victory of the season. 
 
Andrea Pineda helped the Bobcats move the score to 3-0 with a straight set victory on court No. 5. Pineda won her match 6-1, 6-0 and leads the Bobcats with 12 singles wins on the year. 
 
Fortuno ended the match with her 6-3, 6-1 victory in straight sets over ULM's Pereira. She holds the second most singles victories on the team, with 11 on the year. 
 
Three Bobcats had their matches go unfinished, after Texas State earned the match point over ULM. Emily Niers was featured on court three and had won her first set 7-6 (7) and was down in set two 3-0, when Texas State earned the final match point.  
 
Graham and Creath were the other two Bobcats with unfinished matches on Friday. Graham won her first set 6-1 on court No. 1 and was tied 4-4 in the second set, when the contest was stopped. 
 
On court two, Creath fell 6-3 in her first set and was tied 1-1 in the second set, when the Bobcats secured the victory. 
 
Next up for the Bobcats is the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Rome, Georgia. The tournament takes places April 24-28 and will be streamed via ESPN+.
