ROME, Ga. – In the second matchup of the season between the two schools, which came down to the final set on court three, Texas State suffered a 4-3 defeat against Georgia State in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship.

Georgia State got out to an early lead on the Bobcats, after winning the doubles point to begin the match. The Bobcats'
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora, were the lone pair to win their doubles match. The duo defeated the Panthers' Alba Retortillo and Pragnya Kumar 6-0 on court No. 1.Â

The Bobcats (11-8, 5-5 Sun Belt) found themselves down 2-0 to the Panthers after
Callie Creath dropped her singles contest on court No. 2. Creath dropped her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to Georgia State's Retortillo.Â

The Bobcats continued to fight and secured three straight singles victories to take a 3-2 lead over the Panthers. Fortuno gave the Bobcats the lead, when she defeated Kumar in three sets on court No. 4. She won her first set 6-2, dropped the second set 2-6, but battled back to win set three 7-5.Â

Georgia State tied the match at 3-3 after Sara Radojevic defeated Texas State's
Andrea Pineda on court five. Pineda won the first set 7-6 (7), but dropped the next two sets 3-6, 2-6.Â

The match point came down to the contest on court three between Texas State's
Emily Niers and Georgia State's Franceseca Miglio. Niers dropped her first set 6-7 (5) but battled back to win the second set 7-5. The match point was won by Miglio in the third set, when she defeated Niers 6-2 and advanced the Panthers to the quarterfinals of the SBC tournament.Â

Creath dropped her singles match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 on court two, which gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Lora secured the first point for the Bobcats, when she won her singles contest in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 on court No. 6. Lora finished the season with seven wins in singles play.Â

Kiana Graham was featured on the first court for the Bobcats and won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 over Georgia State's Maria Paredes. Graham's win tied the match at 2-2 for the Bobcats and earned her second victory on the year over Paredes. Â

Fortuno earned her 12th singles win of the year and gave the Bobcats the lead over Georgia State, when she won her court No. 4 matchup in three sets.

Despite winning the first set 7-6 (7) on court five, Pineda dropped the next two sets 3-6, 2-6 and forced the match to come down to court No. 4.Â
