SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State men's golf, with a top-three finish in two of its last three tournaments, will close out the regular season with the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss. on Monday-Thursday.
The Bobcats enter the battle for the conference title with the Sun Belt's best average team score this season. They are averaging a 54-hole score of 285.6, which is nearly two strokes better than the next closest team (Old Dominion, 287.2).
Sakke Siltala was Texas State's leading golfer in the last two tournaments. The sophomore was 10th at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in early April and third at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in late March. He was named Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Week after his performance in Mobile Bay.
The Bobcats are 12-4 against Sun Belt teams in tournaments so far this year.
The Sun Belt Championship will feature 54 holes of stroke play on Monday-Wednesday that determines the top-four teams that advance to match play on Thursday. The top-four teams will meet in match play semifinals (No. 1 seed vs. No. 4 seed, No. 2 vs. No. 3), with the winners meeting for the team title in the finals.
Texas State last won a conference team title in 1997 as members of the Southland Conference. The program has won 10 conference titles in its program history, but none as members of the Sun Belt, which it joined in 2013-14.
While Texas State has not won a team title, it has captured two individual titles, including in 2022 (Evan White) and 2014 (Stuart Smallwood).
