SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Down to the final set in the final match, Sofia Fortuno rallied to win her singles point and help lift Texas State women's tennis to its eighth win in a row with a 4-3 defeat of Coastal Carolina on Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Â
"This was a huge win for our program, not only to keep the winning streak alive, but I don't believe we have ever beaten Coastal Carolina," said Texas State head coach Kendall Brooks. "I'm just so proud of the girls and so happy for them to get this win. They have been working so hard and are such a strong team, they deserve everything that they are earning for themselves so far this season. It was obviously a team effort, but an impressive performance by Sofi to clinch that for us in the end. Huge."Â
The Bobcats (8-2, 2-0 Sun Belt) bounced back from losing the doubles point and were up against a 3-3 tie when Fortuno won a tiebreaker 7-5 in the second set of her match on court four to force the decisive third. The junior then pulled away early in the third set and won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to clinch the second conference victory in a row for Texas State.Â
The Bobcats are now amidst their longest winning streak since 2012 (nine wins in a row) and have already matched their win total from all of last season.Â
The win was also Texas State's first in four all-time meetings against the Chanticleers (5-6, 0-2 Sun Belt).Â
DOUBLESÂ
Coastal Carolina captured the doubles point after winning matches on courts one and three. On court three, Emily Niers and Emma Carr dropped their match 7-5, while on court one, Maria Lora and Fortuno dropped their match 6-3. This was only the second time this season the duo of Fortuno and Lora has lost a doubles match. Â
Jadeh Chan and Mae McCutcheon won their doubles match 7-6 (4) on court two. They were matched up against Coastal's Kata Foldeak and Cecile Morin, who had won their last three doubles matches on court two.Â
SINGLESÂ
The Bobcats quickly earned a singles point to even the match thanks to Andrea Pineda. Pineda won her match on court five in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. The win extended Pineda's winning streak to eight matches. Â
Coastal Carolina struck back to earn two more points after winning matches on court three and court six. Niers lost to Coastal's Jesse Hollins 6-4, 6-3 on court three while Lora fell to Brooke Rogers 7-5, 6-4 on court six. It was just Lora's second loss in singles this year as she dropped to 5-2.Â
Facing a 3-1 deficit, the Bobcats began their ascent back when Callie Creath won in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (1) on court two. She defeated Coastal Carolina's Anna Babayan who had a 4-1 record on court two coming into the match. Â
On court one, Kiana Graham evened up the overall match at 3-3 after defeating Coastal's Nicole Abel in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. It marked Graham's fourth win of the year on the first court as she improved to 4-2.Â

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow when they face Georgia Southern at the Bobcat Tennis Complex at 10 am. Â
