PHOENIX, Arizona – It was a complete game on both offense and defense for the Bobcats as they closed the Arizona State/GCU Classic undefeated with a 6-0 win against Grand Canyon on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats are now 14-4 on the season through 18 games.
Â
The Bobcats scored six unanswered runs from five different Bobcats while having an error-less game and a complete game shutout from
Jessica Mullins. Mullins tallied up 13 strikeouts against the Lopes, tying her career high set in 2022 against South Alabama.
Â
A two run
Sara Vanderford homer, a
Ciara Trahan RBI double turned run on an error, a
Piper Randolph sac-fly and aggressive base running to steal home from
Karmyn Bass made up the scoring for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will return home to host #2 Texas on Wednesday, February 28 inside Bobcat Softball Stadium. The game will be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 and tickets can be purchased at txst.com/tickets.Â

How it Happened
Neither side found any success in the batter's box through the first three innings as both sides went three-up, three-down for the first three-innings. It was an impressive showing for starting pitcher
Jessica Mullins, though, as she went seven straight strikeouts to start the game.
Â
The Bobcats bats came alive in the fourth inning.
Hannah Earls got on base from a single and stole second on Trahan's at-bat. Trahan would go on to get an RBI double and score on her at-bat when the Lopes' second basemen made a fielding error.
Â
From there, Bass singled to the right side and advanced
Anna Jones to second who got on from a walk.
Piper Randolph hit a sac fly to left field to score Jones and go up 3-0.
Â
Bass would end up stealing home on
Emilee Baker's at-bat while the Lopes catcher attempted to throw out
Sydney Harvey at second base. Baker ended up striking out to end the inning, but the 'Cats led 4-0 in the top of the 4
th.
Â
Mullins gave up a hit in the 4
th but got out of the inning without giving up a run.
Â
The Bobcats got two runs in the 6
th off a
Sara Vanderford home run to left field, scoring Trahan who reached on a fielder's choice. This was Vanderfords 3
rd home run of the season, 32
nd of her career.
Â
Mullins struck out three straight batters in the bottom of the 6
th, all in four of fewer pitches. She would tally 13 strikeouts on the day, tying the most in a single game in her career.
Â
No more runs would be added to the board in the 7
th as the Bobcats won 6-0 and finished the ASU/GCU Classic undefeated, going 6-0.
