SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sun Belt Conference play begins on Saturday for the Texas State men's basketball team (7-4) when it hosts Georgia Southern (7-5) on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. from Strahan Arena.

The Bobcats look to get back in the win column after seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end last Saturday at Florida Atlantic. In Sun Belt openers, TXST is 4-7 all-time and have lost five straight. The last conference opening win was on Jan. 3, 2019 against Georgia Southern by a score of 73-70.
Kaden Gumbs continues to lead the team in scoring (14.0), made field goals (53), field goal attempts (116), assists (45) and steals (19). The sophomore is second on the team and in the conference with an 87.8% at the free throw line behind teammate
Joshua O'Garro (90.9%), who is putting up 10.5 ppg and 6.8 rpg.
Both
Tyrel Morgan (13.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and
Tylan Pope (13.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg) are putting up at least 13 points and six rebounds a contest. In his three games back from injury,
Coleton Benson has knocked down nine three-pointers with three in each contest to average 11.7 ppg.
Drue Drinnon paces the team in three-point shooting at 54.3% having gone 19-for-35 from beyond the arc.

The Eagles are coming off an 86-81 win at home on Tuesday over Gardner-Webb in their final non-conference game of the calendar year. When playing away from Statesboro, GS is 2-5 with a 1-4 mark in true road games. The team's only wins away from home were against North Carolina Central and Winthrop with both contests being a part of the Rock Hill Classic.
Adante' Holiman leads the team offensively at 15.9 ppg but hasn't played since Nov. 23 against West Georgia. Nakavieon White is putting up 13.4 ppg on 44.5% shooting and has made a team best 79.5% (31-of-39) of his free throws. Coming off a 31-point performance on Tuesday for his third consecutive game with at least 20 points, Bradley Douglas is now averaging 13.3 ppg while leading the team with 20 steals.
Former Bobcat Donate Horne is tied for the team's lead in assists with 29. The senior is netting 8.0 ppg on 34.0% shooting.
Series History
Georgia Southern leads the all-time 9-5 after winning 84-76 last season in Statesboro. When playing in San Marcos, Texas State is 4-2 all-time and have won the last three contests. Last time the teams met in Strahan Arena was Jan. 26, 2023. The Bobcats won 70-67 behind a 23-point performance off the bench from Nighael Ceaser.
