SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sunday will see the Texas State men's basketball team play at Texas Southern at 4 p.m. in the H&PE Center. It will be the sixth consecutive game for the Bobcats that they will play on the road.

TXST enters Sunday on a two-game winning streak after ending the Myrtle Beach Invitational with victories over Ohio and Princeton to claim fifth place in the event. Averaging over 15 points a game in the tournament were
Kaden Gumbs (16.0),
Tyrel Morgan (15.7) and
Tylan Pope (17.7).

Overall, Gumbs leads the Bobcats in scoring (16.6), assists (25) and steals (12). The sophomore is second on the team in free throw shooting at 86.7% while shooting 48.9% from the field. Pope increased his scoring average to 13.4 ppg and leads the team with a 54.1% field goal percentage.

Netting 12.6 ppg and grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game is Morgan. Also, with a double-digit scoring average this season is
Dylan Dawson (10.3) and
Joshua O'Garro (10.9), who paces the squad with 7.1 rpg.

About Texas Southern
The Tigers are coming off an 80-72 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday that snapped a four-game losing streak. Their only other victory this year came on Nov. 6 against Texas A&M-San Antonio (100-66). TSU has suffered road losses to Georgia, Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Samford and Xavier.

Kavion McClain leads the team with 14.1 ppg, 5.7 apg, 10 steals and 14 made three-pointers. Also putting up double-figures is Kenny Hunter at 10.7 ppg while making 50.7% of his shot attempts. He paces the squad at 6.6 rpg and eight blocks.

Series History
Leading the all-time series is Texas Southern with a 7-5 advantage. Sunday will be the first meeting between the teams since Dec. 16, 2010 in Fort Worth that saw the Tigers win 78-64 in the Heritage Classic played at the Wilkerson-Greines Center. Texas State's last victory in the series was also the last time the teams met in Houston. The Bobcats won 79-71 on Nov. 29, 2022 to improve to 2-3 all-time when facing TSU on the road.
