HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Frank & Barabara Broyles Foundation today announced the 65 coaches nominated for the 2024 Broyles Award, which honors college football's top assistant coaches. For the second consecutive season, the list includes Texas State offensive coordinator
Mack Leftwich.
Leftwich has helped lead the Bobcats to a national ranking of seventh in total offense (469.3) as well as scoring (36.4) and rushing offenses (202.2) in the top 20. Texas State's passing offense ranks 30th led by quarterback
Jordan McCloud, who sits in the top five for points responsible for (3rd, 208), points responsible for per game (4th 18.9) and passing TDs (5th, 28).
In the Texas State record book, the 2024 season currently ranks third in points (400), third in total offense (5,162) and fourth in rushing yards (2,224).
In 2023, Leftwich was named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football "40 Under 40" list. Prior to his time in Sam Marcos, the former college quarterback helped lead UIW to three FCS Playoff appearances, including a trip to the semifinals in 2022. He has also mentored four players to multiple All-America honors in
Ismail Mahdi, Lindsey Scott Jr., Cam Ward and Jon Copeland.
The 65 nominees in this year's class were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 131 FBS programs across the country. The Broyles Award selection process includes the
Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), broadcasters, a college football hall-of-fame selection committee, and current college head coaches.
A selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, broadcasters and a committee representing the FWAA will select 15 semi-finalists, five finalists from the list of nominees, and an overall winner.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday against South Alabama for their final regular season game of the 2024 season. Kick is slated for 2:30 p.m. CT and will stream on ESPN+.
