SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State volleyball suffered its first home loss of the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon in four sets to Arkansas State. Despite winning set one, the Bobcats were unable to take another set.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sam Wunsch started off with four kills of the first nine points to put the Bobcats out to a 9-6 lead early in set one. From there, the Bobcats went on a 6-2 run to go up 15-8 at the media timeout, hitting effectively for 10 kills on 20 attempts. Arkansas State was able to battle back in the latter half of the set to bring the score closer, but Texas State was able to go on a run late to win the first set 25-19.

Arkansas State got off to a good start in the second set, going up 14-4 and forcing the Bobcats to take an early timeout. From there, the Red Wolves continued to push their way through the set to a 25-17 win.

Set three was closer between the two sides, but Texas State was unable to find a lead despite starting the set 3-0. Arkansas State went on a run at the midway point of the set to go up 18-13 and force Texas State into another timeout. From there, a 7-2 run pushed the Red Wolves to a 25-15 win in set three.

Set four was close between the two sides with no more than two points separating the two sides through the media timeout. From there, though, Arkansas State went on a 10-1 run to win the match, taking set three 25-14.

Texas State is now 11-8 on the season with a 5-3 record in Sun Belt play.
