MOBILE, Alabama — Texas State volleyball suffered its second conference loss of the season in four sets to South Alabama on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two sides matched each other well in the first set, with each side tallying 16 kills. Ultimately, it was a handful of errors by the Bobcats that were the difference. After battling back from being down 14-19 to tie the game at 24, an attack error by
Caelyn Emmerling and a kill by South Alabama's Sarah Gooch won the first set for South Alabama.
Â
The Bobcats hit well and forced the Jaguars into 10 attack errors in the second set. While holding the Jaguars to a .026 attack percentage, Texas State was able to push themselves to a 25-20 win. Four blocks by the Bobcats, including two from MJ McCurdy and
Bailey Hanner, was enough to null the Jaguar attack and get the Bobcats the set win.Â
Â
Set three started out close between the two sides, but a 7-1 run put the Jaguars up 14-8 and forced the Bobcats to try and fight their way back. Ultimately, South Alabama's 6.0 blocks as a team limited the Bobcats attack to a .075 percentage and just 11 kills on the set and South Alabama was able to hold on in set three and win 25-22.
Â
The Jaguars came out in set four aggressively, though. Pushing themselves out to a 13-4 lead, the Bobcats had to fight their way back for the rest of the set. Despite bringing things within three at 24-21, the Bobcats couldn't finish the comeback and fell in four sets, with a 25-21 score in set four.
Â
Texas State now sits 10-7 on the season with a 4-2 record in Sun Belt play.
