JONESBORO, Ark. – For the second consecutive tournament, junior
Sakke Siltala led the Texas State men's golf team, helping the Bobcats to a top five finish at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate hosted by Arkansas State at the RidgePointe Country Club.
Siltala (67-69-68—204) carded three rounds in the 60s, including closing out the tournament at 4-under 68, to finish the event at 12-under 204 for third place. The junior now has three rounds in the 60s on the young season after posting a team-leading eight during the 2023-24 season, and all six of his rounds this campaign have been under par. His 67 on the first 18 matched his low score from a season ago, a feat he accomplished twice as a sophomore.
"It was another great performance from
Sakke Siltala," head coach
Shane Howell said. "He played exceptional all week especially only making three bogeys for the tourney. He is playing some special golf right now."
The Bobcats concluded the event at 14-under to secure the fifth-place finish. Host Arkansas State won the event, while Oklahoma Christian finished as the runner-up and Jacksonville State and Austin Peay shared the third spot on the team leaderboard.
"The team is making some strides, but we aren't playing complimentary golf right now in our fourth and fifth spots in order to compete for tourney titles," Howell said. "We will continue to keep working our process and building for the next tournament."
Ben Loveard (71-64-75—210), who shot an impressive 64 in the second round to match the tournament's low round, went 3-over 75 on the final 18 to secure himself a top 10 finish at -6 in his first action as a Bobcat.
Senior
Jack Burke (72-67-73--212) gave TXST a third player in the top 20 on the final individual leaderboard after finishing at 4-under 212, good for a tie for 17th. Rounding out the Bobcat line-up were
Harrison Jaeger (+13) and
Jaxon Donaldson (+15), who finished tied for 69th and tied for 74th, respectively.
Brannan Cox represented Texas State as an individual in Jonesboro, coming away from the event tied for 48th at 5-over.
The Bobcats return to tournament play Oct. 29-31 at the Kapolei Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai'i.
