Holeman Wins 300th Career Match Thursday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – It was a historic night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex when the final horn sounded Thursday night as Texas State (4-3-0) wrapped up a 4-0 win over Texas Southern (0-7-0). The victory was the 300th in head coach Steve Holeman's career, becoming the 31st active Division I coach to reach the mark and 50th to do so in D1 history.

"It feels great. Couldn't ask to celebrate this (300 wins) with anyone else but this team," said Holeman. "I had no idea the video was coming. And to see some of my old players, my family and my daughter here on the team, it was really special."

The Bobcats only needed 34 seconds to find the back of the net when Bailey Peschel knocked in a short cross from Zoe Junior. Also being credited with an assist on the play was Madi Goss.

Victoria Meza nearly found the back of the net in the 37th minute that saw the ball hit the left post. A few seconds later she had another shot attempt that was blocked. The ball bounced towards Goss, who put the ball past the goalkeeper to extend the lead to 2-0.

TXST's third goal of the match came in the early part of the 61st minute. A long ball from the back saw a Tiger misplayed it in the air that saw it bounce towards TSU's goal. After a battle with a defender, Mady Soumare got past the last defender and put the ball under the diving keeper for her second goal in as many matches.

A pass from Annabelle Fisher found an open Halle Garcia. From the near side, the freshman forward sent a low ball that hit off the left post and in for the final tally of the match early in the 79th minute.

Texas State outshot the Tigers 25-2 and held an advantage of 12-1 in shots on goal. Meza led all players with six shot attempts, the most by any Bobcat this season. Both Goss and Peschel took three shots each while attempting two shots was Chloe Jones, Fisher, Junior and Soumare.

Katelyn Chrisman started in goal and stopped the lone shot that TSU put on frame. Coming on at the start of the second half, Caitlyn Draper played the final 45 minutes between the posts and only had to face one shot.

Next up for the Bobcats is the non-conference finale that will see them travel back to Space City for the second straight Sunday. This time TXST will take on Houston with kickoff set for 7 p.m. from the Carl Lewis International Complex.
