SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the latest States Up podcast, senior pitcher
Zeke Wood of Texas State baseball sits down ahead of a pivotal weekend for the Bobcats in the Sun Belt tournament and looks back at his journey from Paris, Texas to graduating from Texas State.
Wood has been a key member of the Bobcats for the last three seasons. After starting his collegiate career at the junior college level at North Central Texas College, the right-hander was with the team in a disappointing 2021 season, to the remarkable run in 2022 that ended in the NCAA Regional final after a Sun Belt title, to this year's battle for the postseason that has seen Wood battle through injuries.
In 43 career games (42 starts), Wood is 12-9 with a 4.19 ERA. He has 219 strikeouts in 206.0 innings pitched. This season, he has started 12 games, including the final regular season game of the season on Senior Day at Bobcat Ballpark in which he held ULM to no runs over 3 1/3 innings.
In the podcast, Wood looks back at that emotional senior day last weekend, his ride from his hometown to junior college to reaching an NCAA regional, his approach this year of doing whatever it takes to help the team win despite his injuries, his life after Texas State as a construction science major, his friendship with fellow starter
Levi Wells, and more.
