SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team fell on Friday night in the second game of the series to ULM 6-1 at Bobcat Ballpark.
Â
With the result, the Bobcats are now 34-21 on the season and 16-13 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Warhawks are 17-36 overall and 6-22 in conference play.
Â
Junior right-hander
Tony Robie (5-4) struck out two but allowed three runs on four hits in three innings to take the loss. The win was picked up by Nicholas Judice (3-3) after the gave up a run in just five innings. Chipper Menard pitched the final three innings to earn his first save of the season.
Â
Tossing two scoreless frames of relief was
Triston Dixon while
Jonathan Martinez held the Warhawks scoreless in the ninth.
Nathan Medrano had two strikeouts in his 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Â
Cade Manning was the lone Bobcat with multiple hits on the night with two including his 10th home run of the season. Also with an extra-base hit was
Jose Gonzalez as he recorded a double.
Â
ULM got a solo homer from Riley Davis in the second. Two more runs would be added on three consecutive singles to start the third along with a ground out.
Â
The fourth inning saw Cardell Thibodeaux leadoff with a solo long ball. With one out and runners on first and second in the frame,
Cameron Bush appeared to induce an inning ending double play but Travis Washburn did a popup slide right into
Chase Mora that caused his throw to first sail high and out of play. Initially the umpires ruled a double play due to runner interference but overturned their call after a replay review that allowed another run to score.
Â
Manning smashed a 2-0 offering in the bottom of the frame over the left center wall for the lone run of the game for the Bobcats and cutting the deficit to 5-1.
Â
The third solo shot of the game for ULM came from Matt Abshire in the sixth.
Â
In the bottom of the ninth, TXST was able to load the bases with one out behind walks from
Rashawn Galloway and
Ben McClain and a single by Manning. The Bobcats' threat was ended, however, on a double play.
Â
The final home game of the season takes place on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Prior to the contest, the team will honor its seniors in a ceremony.
